Well after 4 weeks… well it still sucks.
While the swings from giddy to massive depression are much less frequent, there are still the days we wake up with the weight and dread of the whole thing. Although, through that haze, we are starting to see a clearer lead in to the way forward and what our future will look like. It’s still hard to think we went on a planned trip and never came back… it’s like the land locked version of Gilligan’s Island. Truth is nothing feels like home, now that the house isn’t there, the attachment seems to decrease daily. While we miss our friends, we feel less and less anchored there. Although at this point there is really no area that really feels like home. That is no offense to our friends, we just abruptly lost all connectivity to a fixed point. This is probably the most concerning part of all of this, just the feeling of being truly lost. I am sure in time this too will subside, but for now…
Okay now let’s get to the fun stuff. This week let’s start with an inventory of big thing and a few updates.

One of the issues we ran into right away. US mail and getting our deliveries! They will hold for 30 days, and then start delivering at the residence again. Problem with that is, we aren’t near there. So we have to have a solution for getting our mail. Frankly asking your neighbors to check your mail daily and collect it, just isn’t something we are willing to ask. Now if someone asked us to do the same for them, we certainly would, but neither of us could ever ask that, just who we are. Well, in comes a well established solution, America’s Mailbox, which will do exactly that. They are a mail service that will collect our mail then send it to a location near us. Forward our mail to them and boom… they get it all together, toss out spam, scan any envelop we mark important, then forward all the kept mail to a delivery point of our choosing. It’s probably obvious, but there are a few problems with deliveries and mail when you are moving from campground to campground. It would be really hard for us to go back to our property or a PO Box that any in a fixed location to collect our mail in a timely manor. Equally not every place allows deliveries (our current did, but now doesn’t). Since we are full time RV living and this type of thing exists, this is the route we went and it’s done. Check one more thing off the list. Just an added note, there are many other services America’s Mailbox provides, like South Dakota residence, drivers license, car services (title), etc. We haven’t taken full advantage of these yet, but that remains an option. We will see how a few of the things play out first.
Walter got to stretch his legs for a few minutes this weekend as we moved from the “campground” over to the “rally site.” This is the first time we have had the big boy parked on, well the grass. Nothing fancy at all. Sitting in the grass, with full hookups. Being the slight snobs we are, we typically don’t “rough” it like this… but it’s kinda fun. It is also a bit cooler than a pad with a concrete and asphalt jungle around. We will see how much we like it after it rains this week (lookin at you mother nature…). So as of this weekend we can officially say we took the big boy off roading. Intentionally drove from pavement to a gravel road to a grass parking spot. Okay, okay, okay! We know, it doesn’t REALLY count as off roading but hey, humor us here as we will take all the laughs we can get!
So we are booked here in Marion until we head to Charleston in October. At least we both feel like we have an anchor point now. That helps restore some normality, and helps us be at ease that we have someplace to go. Our friends here are going to be here until December, which means we at least have a few friendly faces here until we leave!
